Local Sportscaster Goes Viral for Cranky Winter Weather Report Mark Woodley reporting on a blizzard for KWWL

During your typical local news coverage of a winter storm, you can expect several types of perspectives, from a meteorologist in the studio explaining a weather radar to a reporter outside showing you a first-hand account. During one early morning show though, a sports reporter was stuck with the grueling task of reporting on the ground. His annoyance with the weather and the job was not hidden at all, and it’s hilarious to watch.

On December 22, 2022, KWWL sports reporter Mark Woodley was called up to report on a blizzard storm in the morning. Cranky and cold, Woodley spent hours making hilarious quips and remarks on the horrible weather. At the end of the live broadcast, he compiled some of the best moments in a short video. Woodley then shared it on Twitter with the caption, “This is what you get when you ask the sports guy to come in to cover a blizzard in the morning show.”

The video starts with Woodley outside, bundled up in a coat and hat, only lit by street lights and the camera light. A reporter in the studio asks, “Mark, how’re you feeling out there?” Woodley snarkily responds, “Uh, again, the same way I felt about eight minutes ago when you asked me that same question.” In the next clip, Woodley explains, “I normally do sports. Everything is canceled here for the next couple of days.” With impressive deadpan tone and a snarky smile, Woodley continues, “So, what better time than to ask the sports guy to come in about five hours…earlier than he would normally wake up, go stand out in the wind and the snow and the cold and tell other people not to do the same.”

Other highlights include Woodley stating, “I didn’t even realize that there was a 3:30 also in the morning until today,” and “the outdoors, currently, is not heated.” As well, the sportscaster accuses coworkers of adding hours to his outdoor reporting schedule and says that he wishes he couldn’t feel his face.

Woodley’s snarky hilarity has garnered over 31 million views on Twitter alone. People everywhere have re-shared the video; even celebrities like Judd Apatow and Josh Gad have, the latter of which Woodley says scores him “massive points with [his] kids.” Many viewers have wondered if Woodley has gotten in trouble with the network for his snippety remarks, but he has assured people that his news director and general manager have both known him for years and know his sarcasm. He says, “Both have been very supportive of all this. I was serious in the storm reporting outside of the occasional sarcasm.”

Woodley has used his newfound fame not only to chat with celebrities, but also to support local causes. RAYGUN shirts created four new shirts with different references to the funny compilation, like one that says, “Can I go back to my regular job?” and another that says, “The outdoors is not heated.” Woodley shared the news about the t-shirts on Twitter and also shared that a portion of the proceeds would go towards Cedar Bend Humane, a nonprofit animal shelter. As well, Hurts Donut in Cedar Falls created a funny donut with Woodley’s face on it. They sold them and donated a portion of the proceeds to Kaden’s Kloset, a not-for-profit organization that provides services and necessities to children in need.

The sports reporter doesn’t seem to be planning on switching his career to meteorology any time soon and has appreciated all of the support he has gotten over the past week. He says, “The thing that’s stuck with me the most are the emails (and there have been a lot) from people have told me I was able to put a smile on their face during a difficult time.” Woodley admits he’s gotten emotional reading some of the responses and that they have reminded him that while the holiday season is happy for some, it is difficult for others. He tells fans, “A kind word, gesture, or a phone call can make a world of difference for someone who’s struggling.” Woodley ends by saying, “I want to thank all of you for the overwhelming positive response to my goofiness. It’s been incredible!”

Christmas is a time for peace, love, and being nice; otherwise, for children, Santa may drop coal instead of toys beneath the tree. However, kids sometimes will be kids and indulge in fun shenanigans, no matter the season—or where they happen to be. Marissa Chrzan, a beauty consultant from Arizona, experienced this at her child's Christmas pageant. Her kid, dressed as a shepherd, suddenly breaks apart from formation to engage in mock combat with another boy, as they cross their little staffs. The teacher quickly breaks the fight and picks Chrzan's kid to return him to his place. Nevertheless, the mom captured the whole scene on video, which is now making waves online.

The loving mom found humor in the whole situation, pointing out in the video how other kids remain in place while hers gets away. “Me: I need you to be on your best behavior,” she captioned the video, with his response being an emoji pointing to the screen to show how that turned out.

The video has sparked a lot of funny response, with most people finding parallels between this and the Star Wars franchise. “The force is strong with this one…” said one Twitter user, while someone on Instagram commented “Shepherds and light sabers never mix well.” Others kept it on topic with the pageant, bringing up historical references. “Romans & Christians, had read the script!” wrote one Instagram user, while other said, “Don't worry He's trying to protect baby Jesus from king Herod.”

Beyond the comparisons, nothing beats the sweetness of the little shepherd being swiftly carried to his original position, as that's the final reminder of how tiny these children actually are—and how easily they can get distracted.

When shopping for a specific product, it is always reassuring to read reviews or hear testimonials about whether the item works as advertised. A man on TikTok has taken this to heart and created a whole series of videos to spotlight the quality of his inventory, with very funny results. Known as asianwigman (or @asiantoupeedude), this entertaining wig seller stars in humorous and well-choreographed clips where he swaps wigs and toupees on his own shaved head to the rhythm of some famous tunes.

The TikToker is not bald per se, but he has fully committed to showcasing the myriad of toupees he sells. He isn’t just a salesman, he’s also a customer. To show how effective the hairpieces are, he shaved off most of his head, leaving a bald spot on top that a lot of people (especially older men) can relate to.

The brilliant advertiser has adopted a different approach to his wig-selling business, working under the tagline, “Life is too short to have boring hair.” Though many might think his toupees are only really geared towards older men with a receding hairline, asianwigman shows how it also appeals to women and children. Anyone can experience hair loss and sometimes even someone with a full head of hair may want the option to quickly and easily don a new hairdo each day. To the credit of his products, they look amazing and very real. And you can dance with them on, too!

One of his videos was shared on Reddit, where it earned over 63,000 upvotes. The wildly clever video also earned great praise in the comments section. One Redditor wrote, “And the award for best advertisement of century goes to—” and another admitted, “Might have to shave my head.” Thanks to his funny videos, he now has over 92,000 followers on TikTok, and has promised to launch an online store, which will surely be a success, given how good of a spokesman he is.

There is a famous quote by the author Gretchen Rubin that says, “The days are long, but the years are short.” Ask any parent and they will likely tell you that it’s true. The years fly by. As their children get older, photos will help them remember the fleeting past. Sholom Ber Solomon is doing just that, but with a delightful and hilarious twist. For five years, he and his two daughters, Zoe and Olivia, have created funny photoshoots in which the kids and their dad have a lot of laughs.

Solomon and his daughters dress up in all sorts of outfits and pose in a variety of silly situations. In one photo, the dad is seen in shock as he looks into his (presumably) empty wallet while one daughter smiles from her mini BMW, a collection of shopping bags in hand. Another picture has Solomon dressed as a kitty stuck on the branch of a tree and his child as the firefighter who is going to save him.

Of the many photos that Solomon has created over the years, there is a special one that comes to mind. “There are so many [pictures] that I love,” he tells My Modern Met, “but one of my absolute favorites has to be the one where I was a princess and the kids gave me a makeover. Between doing my makeup and painting my nails, the kids had so much fun they could not stop laughing through it all.”

Scroll down for more creative photos that chronicle the sweet bond Solomon has with his daughters. For more, be sure to follow him on Instagram.

Politician Puts Pouting Son on Christmas Card Andrew Leigh and his family standing for a family portrait

Taking Christmas card photos can be difficult for a multitude of reasons, especially if you have a youngster. Sitting in perfectly posed positions isn’t exactly the most attractive activity to a toddler, and the Leigh family’s youngest didn’t hide his feelings about it.

Back in 2015, Andrew Leigh, a member of Australia's House of Representatives, his wife Gweneth, and his three sons stood for family portraits. “We did a photo shoot with the whole family for about 20 minutes. Our 3-year-old (Zachary) enjoyed it initially, but then found it rather frustrating that we were all standing still and looking at the cameraman,” Leigh says. “From his perspective, you can understand it: Why stand still when you can play?”

“Gweneth and I were smiling at the cameras, along with our eldest two boys,” Leigh explains. “What we didn’t [realize] was that our toddler had left the group and was sitting a [meter] away, with the world’s biggest scowl on his face.”

Instead of choosing a photo where all of the family members were smiling, the family decided to choose that photo for their holiday cards—and everyone loved it. “People didn’t want to see airbrushed politics; they preferred to know that our kids were just as grumpy as everyone else’s,” says the politician. Someone had put the photo online; and soon, their sulking son was making international headlines.

After their family photoshoot garnered attention across the globe, Leigh detailed his role as a parent and a politician in an article he wrote for The Guardian. He says, “Ideally, both parenting and politics should be done with a sense of kindness. With children in your house, a politics of love looks a whole lot more attractive than a politics of hatred. You’re more attuned to the ridiculous and less inclined to take yourself too seriously. And maybe, just maybe, our youngest child will one day forgive us for featuring his grumpiness on our Christmas card.”

When you have a dog, coming home is usually accompanied by joyful cries and lots of jumping. A Japanese photographer who goes by the username inubot captured the beauty of a human and pup reunion in a series of four photos. Set against a verdant backdrop, it features a golden Shiba Inu sprinting up the hill to reunite with its owner.

The heartwarming sequence starts with the slightest view of the dog's fur poking from beneath the concrete road and then skips to just a second or two later when the creature can be seen running at full speed. In the following photo, the canine has finally climbed up the road and is on its way back to its owner. Inubot uses the last image to zoom in on the Shiba Inu's face and showcase its huge happy grin and bright eyes.

Similar to a flipbook animation, browsing through these photos allows the viewers to see how the narrative ensued. It also highlights the relatable excitement a dog has to finally meet up with its owner after spending time apart. It's easy to imagine that the Shiba Inu and inubot shared a moving hug afterward.

Part of the joys of cat ownership is them silently judging you for any and all of your life decisions. Staring at you from across the room, many felines furrow their brows, indicating their deep disappointment with anything that does not directly benefit them. (How could you go into the kitchen and not offer them a treat? Rude!) This, of course, only makes us love them more; and now, there’s a calendar to celebrate it all year long. The Racoon Society has published its 2023 Pissed-Off Cats calendar, with 12 kitties giving you a ton of sass each month.

The calendar features felines with peering eyes and over-it expressions accompanied by their inner monologues. In January, for instance, a kitty is nestled under a pile of cozy blankets and telling humans to “go find your own damn blankets.” Seasonably appropriate, the photos and sentiments change as the calendar flips forward, but all are connected with the thread of seriously peeved cats. They are sure to make you laugh the whole year.

The 2023 Pissed-Off Cats calendar is wire coil-bound to make it easy to hang in your office, kitchen, or above your feline’s bed. Accompanying the amusing photography are 300+ fun official occasions including National Pizza Day (February 9) and National Hug Your Cat Day (June 4).

Cats are comedians. They certainly don’t realize it, but as Japanese photographer Masayuki Oki shows, they are constantly doing things that make us laugh. Oki roams Tokyo and other city streets to look for kitties that are just being themselves, but they are doing so in a way that is funny to us humans. This includes dramatic fighting poses, weird facial expressions, and contorted positions as they groom themselves. Sometimes, the photos are so bizarre that they don’t seem real. But as any cat lover knows, this is the nature of these amusing little creatures.

Street photography often centers on humans, but Oki defies convention by searching for cats while he walks. He snapped his first photo of a gray-haired feline he calls Busanyan-senpai on New Year’s Eve in 2013. The next day, with his passion for cat photography fully ignited, he grabbed his camera and started taking more pictures of them. It has provided him with a popular subject matter and a dedicated social media following, and it's also a way for Oki to share his love of cats while not being able to have them at home.

Baby elephants have given us some endearing moments recently, from the one that cheerfully raised its trunk after a girl helped it get unstuck from the mud to little Chaba, who had the best time getting her first-ever bath. The latest baby elephant to steal our hearts did so in a much more comedic way. Alvin Kaunda, a reporter for Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), was recording a segment about Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, an orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program, when one of its residents decided to steal the spotlight.

Kaunda was talking to the camera about how this sanctuary is the place the elephants call home, experience love, and grapple with loss. More importantly, he addressed how vulnerable habitats are being pushed to the brink by human activity. This very serious message started turning into a wholesome moment when one of the baby elephants, looking at the reporter with wide eyes, began sniffing the side of his head. Kaunda remained focused for as long as he could, but the elephant swiftly moved his trunk over the reporter’s until he could no longer keep a straight face and wound up bursting into laughter.

The TV journalist is never bothered by the elephant playing with him, and it's his sweet reaction—first keeping calm, and then just giggling and turning to the elephant as if it was an old friend poking at him—that makes it all an adorable exchange.

The video was eventually shared on Reddit, where it earned 50,000 upvotes in just one subreddit. Users mostly cheered on Kaunda for  how long he was able to keep it together. “Once that elephant touched my ear it’s game over for me,” said one user, while others funnily tried to guess if the baby elephant was looking for the source of the sound or felt like Kaunda needed to borrow its trunk to blend in.

While at first it may look like the creature interrupted the message, in the end, it helped it drive the point home. This cute action put the spotlight on how vulnerable and friendly these endangered animals are, and who is most at risk if action is not taken to protect their habitats.

Alvin Kaunda, a reporter for Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), was recording a segment about Sheldrick Wildlife Trust when one of its residents decided to steal the spotlight.

Kaunda remains focused for as long as he can, but the elephant swiftly moves his trunk over his face until the reporter can no longer keep a straight face and he bursts into laughter.

Have you ever been so deep in your thoughts that you just…sat there staring at the void? A Koala at a Japanese zoo knows that feeling, or so we think. This creature, known as Daichi-kun, lives at the England Hill Agricultural Park and Zoo, located in the Hyogo Prefecture. While he usually charms visitors by showing his excitement whenever his caretaker approaches his enclosure, he recently went viral after being caught in a different position—sitting up straight by the entrance, with a serious expression and gazing into the distance.

The photos of the koala were shared by the zoo on Twitter, where they have garnered more than 25,000 retweets and over 130,000 likes in just a matter of days. Since the team only shared the pics with an old-school emojicon that represents the koala as the caption, it's been up to the public to make their own conclusions about what the marsupial is thinking about. One user suggested maybe Daichi-kun was pretending to ignore his caretaker. Some stroke up comparisons to zen monks reaching enlightenment, or to the way some men lounge at Japanese bathhouses. Another user even complimented his good posture. However, the most common response had to do with how human-like Daichi-kun's new pose is.

If anything, it's funny to see both sides of Daichi-kun's personality. Some have compared his sweet demeanor around his caretaker to a fan waiting outside a venue hoping to catch a glimpse of his favorite artist. This koala—and honestly, all the animals the zoo shares pics of, from lambs to squirrels—has such charismatic expressions that we can't help wanting to reach out to him in case he's having a bad day. On top of that, he looks like a teddy bear when he's asleep. He is both relatable and cute at the same time! No wonder why he's one of the stars of the zoo.

You can follow Daichi-kun's adventures by following the England Hill Zoo on Twitter.
