The war in Ukraine has ravaged the country for over 300 hundred days. During this time, Ukrainian artists have found both a comforting space and a platform for their unbreakable spirits in their creations, which range from paper art and photography to large installations and heartbreaking illustrations. Now, the strength of the Ukrainian people will make it to one of the world's biggest stages via an empowering outfit. Miss Ukraine, Viktoria Apanasenko, has unveiled the costume she will wear at the 2023 Miss Universe pageant, and it truly encapsulates her homeland's relentlessness.

The costume, titled Warrior of Light, was brought to life by Ukrainian designer Lesia Patoka of Patoka Studio. The project took her four months, which included extended periods with no electricity and having to work by candlelight and fighting the cold as the sirens wailed in the streets. “In this image, there is a reference to Archangel Michael, the guardian angel, who protects Ukraine with a sword,” writes Patoka. “Viktoria has a weapon in her hands, her body is in stylized armor, while at the same time she brings light through this total darkness, metaphorical and literal, that has come to our lands with the aggressor.”

Rather than putting the pain in the spotlight, the team behind the costume went for an outfit that represented valor and hope for a brighter future. “In this difficult time for our Motherland, we thought for a long time: what should be the image that symbolizes our country? What ‘message' should he carry to the whole world? What should its details tell about? We even held a vote among the public for how they want to metaphorically see our country: to recreate the tragedy of the Ukrainian present or to show Ukraine in a bright image that will demonstrate the Ukrainian spirit and strength of our people. The majority will vote for the second version,” said Anna Filimonova, president of the Miss Ukraine Universe contest.

These choices informed the final design, which is comprised of five elements that marry high fashion and Ukrainian traditions. Apanasenko dons a golden jumpsuit that emulates a full-body armor. On top of it, she wears a white dress with puffy sleeves and a skirt made out of 10 meters (32 feet) of fabric. The most striking part is the wings, which the designer describes as “scorched in battle, but unbroken.” Encased in blue and gold armor, they are decorated with gleaming motifs. Ukraininan corn makes an appearance both on the headpiece and the lower part of the wings.

“In this costume, I wanted to put the idea that war cannot break our strength and discolor our hearts,” Apanasenko wrote on Instagram. “Even on a fire, like a Phoenix, Ukraine will blossom and shine with bright rays of kindness and faith.”

Apanasenko will wear the costume at the Miss Universe gala, which will take place in New Orleans on January 14, 2023. While the winner of the National costume contest is still up in the air, she has achieved a victory in becoming a symbol of resilience.

When shopping for a specific product, it is always reassuring to read reviews or hear testimonials about whether the item works as advertised. A man on TikTok has taken this to heart and created a whole series of videos to spotlight the quality of his inventory, with very funny results. Known as asianwigman (or @asiantoupeedude), this entertaining wig seller stars in humorous and well-choreographed clips where he swaps wigs and toupees on his own shaved head to the rhythm of some famous tunes.

The TikToker is not bald per se, but he has fully committed to showcasing the myriad of toupees he sells. He isn’t just a salesman, he’s also a customer. To show how effective the hairpieces are, he shaved off most of his head, leaving a bald spot on top that a lot of people (especially older men) can relate to.

The brilliant advertiser has adopted a different approach to his wig-selling business, working under the tagline, “Life is too short to have boring hair.” Though many might think his toupees are only really geared towards older men with a receding hairline, asianwigman shows how it also appeals to women and children. Anyone can experience hair loss and sometimes even someone with a full head of hair may want the option to quickly and easily don a new hairdo each day. To the credit of his products, they look amazing and very real. And you can dance with them on, too!

One of his videos was shared on Reddit, where it earned over 63,000 upvotes. The wildly clever video also earned great praise in the comments section. One Redditor wrote, “And the award for best advertisement of century goes to—” and another admitted, “Might have to shave my head.” Thanks to his funny videos, he now has over 92,000 followers on TikTok, and has promised to launch an online store, which will surely be a success, given how good of a spokesman he is.

A TikTok user known as asianwigman stars in humorous and well-choreographed clips where he swaps wigs and toupees to the rhythm of some famous tunes.

When it comes to holiday movies, everyone has a favorite. Whichever it may be, there’s no denying that Home Alone always has a place on the best-of list. This holiday classic has enchanted audiences since its release in 1990, and the lore around it only grows with each passing year thanks to its amazing cast and memorable moments. Now, LEGO has released a 3,955-piece set inspired by one of the most iconic elements of the movie—the amazing house where Kevin McAllister, the main character, lives and fends off the Wet Bandits, two burglars who think the entire family is gone for Christmas.

This detailed LEGO set allows you to reenact your favorite scenes, from when Kevin puts on aftershave in front of the mirror to the moving reunion with his mom at the end of the film. However, no Home Alone LEGO set would be complete without all the booby traps Kevin relies on to fight the intruders, from the iron Marv takes to the face—the mark of which can be seen on the burglar's minifig—to the tarantula that escapes Kevin's older brother's room.

Just as iconic as the house is Harry and Marv's blue grey van, so of course the design team made it part of the set. It features five minifigures—Kevin, his mom, Marv, Harry, and even “Old Man” Marley, who Kevin inspires to make amends with his son in one of the movie's most endearing scenes. The best part about the McAllister house set is that it can be opened, revealing all the rooms and hideouts that can be seen in the movie—including the basement and the treehouse.

While the connection between the movie and the holiday season is undeniable, the outdoor holiday decoration of the brick house furthers the festive feeling, making it the perfect Christmas gift for a movie lover.

The Home Alone set is now available on LEGO's online store and Amazon.

Classical sculptures are a foundational part of art history. From ancient Greece to the Roman empire, these civilizations left behind works of art that continue to inspire awe from museums. Appreciating their importance, New York-based designer Sebastian Errazuriz finds ways of bringing the treasures of the past into contemporary homes through his series, Antiquities. Among these varied works is a glass table containing what appears to be fragments of classical art.

Titled Ruins Table, this modern piece merges ancient art with modern functionality, “preserving” pieces of sculptures inside a transparent glass structure. “Newness is a mirage condemned to fade. Eternal beauty is best captured revisiting the ruins and shapes that have survived time,” Errazuriz says. The fragments—which include busts, arms, and feet—are half-buried in the marble dust, looking as though they have been left as they were found.

When staged inside the home, the Ruins Table resembles a time capsule of ancient but enduring aesthetics that have influenced the course of art history. “The series invites us to build a new future out of past memories. To live as archeologists discovering which ruins will survive our time,” explains Errazuriz. “To remember that as our own history fades in a whirlwind of technological growth; new truths and tables will be built from the ruins we leave behind.”

For people who commute or travel, a good quality pair of headphones is a must. Usually, this means choosing between wireless earphones or ones that fit over-the-ears, but soon, there will be another option. British technology company Dyson—known for its array of vacuums—is debuting its first wearable product. Called Dyson Zone, this unique pair of headphones not only cancels outside noise, but it also purifies the air you breathe.

Created over a six-year period, this unique product offers the latest in audio and purifying technology, ideal for those living in cities and urban areas. “Air pollution is a global problem—it affects us everywhere we go. In our homes, at school, at work, and as we travel, whether on foot, on a bike or by public or private transport. The Dyson Zone™ purifies the air you breathe on the move,” says chief engineer Jake Dyson. “And unlike face masks, it delivers a plume of fresh air without touching your face, using high-performance filters and two miniaturized air pumps. After six years in development, we’re excited to deliver pure air and pure audio, anywhere.”

As the Dyson Zone headphones cancel noise pollution, the earpieces can simultaneously absorb air that is then filtered and delivered to the visor surrounding a person's nose and mouth. The visor comes with an electrostatic filter that lasts up to 12 months before requiring a replacement. Similarly, the headphones are capable of 38 decibels of noise cancellation and are compatible with Bluetooth, SBC, AC, and LHDC audio codecs. When not using the visor, the Dyson Zone headphones can last for about 50 hours; however, the battery time decreases to 4 hours when taking advantage of the air filtration system at its lowest setting. The medium filtration makes battery life 2.5 hours; high filtration makes battery life 1.5 hours.

The Dyson Zone will be available for pre-order by appointment only for U.S. customers beginning in March. Later, the headphones will be available to purchase via Dyson's website and through Dyson Demo stores starting at $949.
